Cookie Policy
Effective date: August 25, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies (like browser local storage) MyTripDude ("we", "us", "our") uses on our website, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle your personal information more broadly.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device to remember information between visits or requests. We also use browser local storage, which works similarly but is never sent to our servers automatically - it just stays on your device.
2. Cookies We Use
a. Essential - always on
- Session cookie - a secure, HttpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in. Required for the Service to work; it cannot be disabled and is never used for tracking or advertising.
- Theme preference - stored in browser local storage (not a cookie), remembers your light/dark mode choice on this device.
b. Optional
- Google Analytics (GA4) - sets cookies to measure how the site is used (pages viewed, general navigation patterns) so we can improve it. Not linked to your MyTripDude account identity.
- PostHog - our in-app product analytics provider, used the same way as GA4 above, for the logged-in application rather than the public site. On the website, PostHog also records masked session replay - a visual reconstruction of on-screen activity used to diagnose usability issues. Text content and form inputs are masked before capture, so amounts, names, and other on-screen details are not visible in a replay.
If you're visiting from the EU, EEA, or UK, these optional cookies only load after you accept them in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Everywhere else, they load by default, and you can decline or change your choice at any time - see Section 4.
3. Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights
We also use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to monitor traffic and page performance. These are cookieless by design - they don't set any identifier on your device and aren't affected by your cookie consent choice.
4. Managing Your Preferences
If you're in the EU, EEA, or UK, you'll see a banner on your first visit to accept or decline optional cookies. Wherever you are, you can review or change your choice at any time from Cookie Preferences in the site footer. You can also block or delete cookies at any time in your browser's settings - doing so may sign you out, since the essential session cookie would be removed too.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add a new analytics provider. We will revise the effective date above when we do.
6. Contact Us
Questions about this Cookie Policy can be sent to support@mytripdude.com, or through our Contact page.
